Earthquake hits Northeast Japan

The epicentre of the quake was about 300km (183 miles) from Kamiashi at a depth of about 33km, says report.

An earthquake with magnitude 7.3 occurred near Sendai, Honshu, in Japan on Dec 7, 2012. Reports said that a warning for a one metre tsunami was issued for the coast of Miyagi Prefecture in northeastern Japan, which was hit by a devastating earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011. The epicentre of the quake was about 300km (183 miles) from Kamiashi at a depth of about 33km, says report. The quake was felt in the capital Tokyo, media reports said. SOURCE :IIFL

Rupee drops after three sessions : Rupee Update

Reuters Market Eye - Rupee fell after three sessions of gains. The pair was at 54.29/30 versus 54.1350/1450 close on Thursday.

The euro languished at one-week lows against the dollar on Friday, having suffered a major setback after the European Central Bank painted a bleak outlook for the euro zone and discussed cutting interest rates.

Pair, however, may see gains later in the session with the government set to win the retail FDI vote in the upper house after a key ally pledged support. The government is now likely to push legislation such as banking law amendment and the companies bill which will further push reforms and are rupee positive.

Pair has major support at 54.00-54.20 levels while a clear break below 54 should inject more downside momentum opening up move to 53.60, technical charts showed.

Indian Stock Market on Friday that is yesterday closed in Green. The BSE benchmark Sensex on Wednesday closed 44 points higher on buying support on optimism that the government would succeed in getting Parliament approval to its decision to allow foreign investment in retail.

Led by Reliance Industries, the Sensex settled the day at 19,391.86, higher by 43.74 points, or 0.23 per cent.

The broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty regained a crucial 5,900 level by rising 11,25 points, or 0.19 per cent to 5,900.50.

Dollar / Rupee is at 54.58, down 0.17%; Euro / Rupee is at 71.42, down 0.33% and Pound / Rupee is at 87.91, down 0.21%.

Indian Stock Market on Friday that is yesterday closed in Green.  A recovery in Asian markets and slightly positive start on the European bourses prompted some buying in select blue chip stocks in the Indian stock market and drove the indices Sensex and Nifty up a bit this afternoon.

However, the market, after a cautious start, was quite subdued almost right through the session, as investors appeared somewhat reluctant to indulge in any big buying in the midst of the debate on the government's decision to allow FDI in multi-brand retail.

Swinging between gains and losses, the BSE benchmark Sensex ended the session at 19,348.12, up 42.80 points or 0.22% from its previous closing mark. The barometer touched a low of 19,263.71 and a high of 19,973.94 during the session.

Dollar / Rupee is at 54.68, down 0.17%; Euro / Rupee is at 71.48, up 0.18% and Pound / Rupee is at 88.13, up 0.21%
